Have you seen the TV series from Starz, Outlander? It is a historical time travel drama based on the best-selling books by Diana Gaboldon. Mercedes Slouch Hat
Hats are for all seasons, and this lightweight crocheted hat is a great one to make and wear when the weather is warmer. It’s worked in a fine-weight yarn, so it’s not too heavy, and mostly uses double crochet, which has a little bit of space in the stitches so it doesn’t make a fabric that’s super warm.

The hat is worked from the top down and has great slouch for holding all your hair or just giving a relaxed look.

Double Knot Beanie
Hats can sometimes be a little intimidating to newer crocheters because of the shaping. But this newborn-sized Double Knot Beanie removes that issue because it’s worked straight all the way down. The beginning looks a little strange because you are working the “tails” that will be tied at the end first, but just follow the directions and you’ll be on to the fun, textured body of the hat in no time.

This hat is sized for newborns but has a good amount of stretch since we all know there’s no standard newborn size!

Preemie Newborn Lacy Butterfly Hat
This Lacy Butterfly crochet hat pattern has the adorable lacy effect while keeping it simple and easy. This hat that looks hard to make simply uses the basic stitches. It mostly uses double crochet stitches to form the base of the hat, then the cute butterfly effect is added when the stitching is done. It looks more complicated than it is but gives a really sweet look to this simple hat. The hat uses medium weight yarn (the softer the better!) and is sized from a 1-3 pound preemie to a newborn up to 11 pounds.

This is a great hat to use up your stash and make hats to donate or to give to all the new babies in your life (they always seem to come in batches, don’t they?).

Crochet Water Lily Flower
Do you ever find yourself in a certain type of mood for a particular kind of crochet project? The other day, I realized I was in the mood to make flowers- only I didn't want to make just any flower. I wanted to crochet a flower that I have never seen crocheted before. The Water Lily crochet flower looks a lot like the Water Lotus, but when you really research you will see the difference between the two easily. I decided on designing a Water Lily because the lilies grow in a variety of colors… allowing my color options to be endless. It's fun to experiment with different stitch combinations to make new and interesting designs.

And once you start making these you’ll find all sorts of fun uses for them, from decorating headbands to adding to gifts.

Star Stitch Fingerless Gloves
There's nothing like a pair of fingerless gloves when you're feeling chilly but still need to send a quick text message. Mittens are such a pain for texting, but fingerless gloves solve that problem. That's why I love these Star Stitch Fingerless gloves. Not only are they fun to wear, but the star stitch is also fun to crochet as well!

Fingerless gloves are great for gift giving because they don’t have to be a particular size and they are so useful for wearing when it’s cold out but you still need to use your fingers (or if you work in a cold office and still need to type!)

Bobble Messy Bun Hat

You’ll still look so cute that people will think you woke up early to get ready. Completely banish bad hair days with this ultra adorable crochet beanie pattern. Since you can opt to make it with an opening for your hair, you don’t have to completely hide your ‘do. Sweep it up into a ponytail that comes through the hat, or style it into a bun.

This easy crochet pattern gives you the choice to create three different styles of hats. You can choose to make a short ear warmer, the messy bun hat itself, or the full beanie. If you can decide, then just make them all. You’ve got options.

Boutique Bow
Are you a Disney fan too? For the longest time, I have been wanting to make a bow that looks like a Minnie Mouse bow. Finally today, I broke out my graph paper and drew her bow the best I could. Then I tried to draw it as a flat piece and realized it would be a lot simpler to put together than I imagined! This free crochet bow pattern measures 5.5 inches wide. It would be great to use to top a hat or a basic earwarmer.

I love the idea of putting it on a newborn hat for a Disney-themed baby announcement or newborn photo shoot. It would also be cute as a bow on a gift, and I’m sure you’ll come up with other ways to use this fun project.

Childrens Rosalina Winter Hat
One of the great things (that can also be a not-so-great thing) about crocheting for kids is that they often have opinions about what you make and tell you exactly what they like and don’t like. I designed this simple, colorful hat and my daughter declared it needed roses, so I found a low-cost flower pattern to add to the ends of the ties.

You can of course just stitch the basic hat, which is a free pattern on the blog, and include the ties or not as you – or your child! – likes. This would be a fun stash busting pattern too, just change colors as you run out of yarn.
