Have you seen the TV series from Starz, Outlander? It is a historical time travel drama based on the best-selling books by Diana Gaboldon. Hats are for all seasons, and this lightweight crocheted hat is a great one to make and wear when the weather is warmer. It’s worked in a fine-weight yarn, so it’s not too heavy, and mostly uses double crochet, which has a little bit of space in the stitches so it doesn’t make a fabric that’s super warm.

Double Knot Beanie
Hats can sometimes be a little intimidating to newer crocheters because of the shaping. But this newborn-sized Double Knot Beanie removes that issue because it’s worked straight all the way down. The beginning looks a little strange because you are working the “tails” that will be tied at the end first, but just follow the directions and you’ll be on to the fun, textured body of the hat in no time.

This hat is sized for newborns but has a good amount of stretch since we all know there’s no standard newborn size!

Preemie Newborn Lacy Butterfly Hat
This Lacy Butterfly crochet hat pattern has the adorable lacy effect while keeping it simple and easy. This hat that looks hard to make simply uses the basic stitches. It mostly uses double crochet stitches to form the base of the hat, then the cute butterfly effect is added when the stitching is done. It looks more complicated than it is but gives a really sweet look to this simple hat. The hat uses medium weight yarn (the softer the better!) and is sized from a 1-3 pound preemie to a newborn up to 11 pounds.

This is a great hat to use up your stash and make hats to donate or to give to all the new babies in your life (they always seem to come in batches, don’t they?).

Crochet Water Lily Flower
Do you ever find yourself in a certain type of mood for a particular kind of crochet project? The other day, I realized I was in the mood to make flowers- only I didn't want to make just any flower. I wanted to crochet a flower that I have never seen crocheted before. The Water Lily crochet flower looks a lot like the Water Lotus, but when you really research you will see the difference between the two easily. I decided on designing a Water Lily because the lilies grow in a variety of colors… allowing my color options to be endless. It's fun to experiment with different stitch combinations to make new and interesting designs.

And once you start making these you’ll find all sorts of fun uses for them, from decorating headbands to adding to gifts.

Star Stitch Fingerless Gloves
There's nothing like a pair of fingerless gloves when you're feeling chilly but still need to send a quick text message. Mittens are such a pain for texting, but fingerless gloves solve that problem. That's why I love these Star Stitch Fingerless gloves. Not only are they fun to wear, but the star stitch is also fun to crochet as well!

Fingerless gloves are great for gift giving because they don’t have to be a particular size and they are so useful for wearing when it’s cold out but you still need to use your fingers (or if you work in a cold office and still need to type!)

Since you can opt to make it with an opening for your hair, you don’t have to completely hide your ‘do. Sweep it up into a ponytail that comes through the hat, or style it into a bun.

This easy crochet pattern gives you the choice to create three different styles of hats. You can choose to make a short ear warmer, the messy bun hat itself, or the full beanie. If you can decide, then just make them all. You’ve got options.

Boutique Bow
Are you a Disney fan too? For the longest time, I have been wanting to make a bow that looks like a Minnie Mouse bow. Finally today, I broke out my graph paper and drew her bow the best I could. Then I tried to draw it as a flat piece and realized it would be a lot simpler to put together than I imagined! This free crochet bow pattern measures 5.5 inches wide. It would be great to use to top a hat or a basic earwarmer.

I love the idea of putting it on a newborn hat for a Disney-themed baby announcement or newborn photo shoot. It would also be cute as a bow on a gift, and I’m sure you’ll come up with other ways to use this fun project.

Childrens Rosalina Winter Hat
One of the great things (that can also be a not-so-great thing) about crocheting for kids is that they often have opinions about what you make and tell you exactly what they like and don’t like. I designed this simple, colorful hat and my daughter declared it needed roses, so I found a low-cost flower pattern to add to the ends of the ties.

You can of course just stitch the basic hat, which is a free pattern on the blog, and include the ties or not as you – or your child! – likes. This would be a fun stash busting pattern too, just change colors as you run out of yarn.

Devin Cowl
This 3rd Loop Infinity Scarf is the perfect scarf if you are looking for a little texture. It’s made with half double crochet stitches and chains so that you are always working in the third loop or stitch of each set, You can make the cowl as wide as you like, and make it a solid color or striped if you like. This is a great project to give as a gift and it’s perfect for men and women to wear.

Easy Peasy Messy Bun Crochet Hat
This hat pattern is crocheted much like a regular beanie, but allows you to leave an opening at the crown to pull your messy bun or high ponytail through. That means no more hat hair. These are perfect for winter activities like skiing and skating, or just for braving the chilly weather. I always get tons of compliments on this hat whenever I wear it, and it makes a perfect gift for friends and family members. You can make this messy bun crochet hat in any color you’d like, and it’s a very beginner-friendly crochet pattern.

It’s guaranteed to be a knockout gift for anyone on your list, but I definitely wouldn’t blame you if you kept one all for yourself!

Easy & Pretty Crochet Flower Pattern with Headband
You are going to love this super easy-to-crochet flower headband. It has been used to decorate gifts, market bags, hats, Easter baskets, headbands (obviously), clips, dresses and so much more. Completed, it's a 4″-5″ flower in acrylic worsted weight yarn or 3″ in cotton. For that particular flower, I used a size H-hook with 100% cotton yarn and followed the pattern for the flower.

I love them! I’m sure you’ll come up with a lot of ways to use them, too.

Tabitha Slouch Hat
This round slouchy hat is for someone that wants something with a little texture and style!
It’s worked from the top down with an optional stretchy ribbing worked when the main hat is done and joined to the body of the hat as you go. This is an easy way to add ribbing and you have a very little bit of sewing up to do at the end.

Because this is a slouchy hat it will fit a variety of heads and makes a great gift for a teen or adult in your life. It’s rated an intermediate pattern but if you’re comfortable working in the round there’s nothing tricky here.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Farmer’s Market Crochet Bag
This bag has a modern, boho feel and it’s designed to be both sturdy and stretchy to accommodate all of your shopping needs. This bag is a great alternative to a tote and is perfect for outings from shopping at the farmer’s market and grocery store to carrying along snacks on road trips. It also makes a wonderful beach bag to hold towels, sunscreen, and anything else you might need.

This bag takes a little time to crochet up, but I promise it’s all worth it! I’m in love with this pattern and have gotten nothing but compliments so I know you’re going to love it as much as I do!

Madison Cowl
Sometimes a simple project can have a big impact. The Madison Cowl uses a simple double crochet stitch with ribbing on one end to make a cowl that’s quick to stitch and easy to wear. Make it in a solid color as shown in the pattern, or use up some odd balls to make a colorful stash-busting project.

This pattern is so quick and easy you can make one in every color to go with all your cold weather outfits.

Wine Country Triangle Shawl
Are you looking for a triangle shawl crochet pattern that's perfect for just about any occasion? Look no further than the classic styled wine country triangle shawl – a crochet shawl that's perfect for wearing while sipping wine as the sun sets over the vineyards. It has a light and airy feel, yet gives just the perfect amount of warmth to ward off the chill of nightfall.

This versatile and easy crochet shawl can also be worn in a multitude of ways, from a traditional wrap style to the more modern triangle scarf style. Perhaps the best part of this lovely crochet pattern is the fact that it's ridiculously quick and easy to make up. It's the perfect crochet pattern for any level of crocheter.

Snowflake Hat
This simple snowflake hat sized for newborns up to bigger kids is super quick and easy to make. Adding a little stitched snowflake embellishment to the side amps up the cuteness for winter wear – or for babies born in the winter. You could embellish the hat with anything you like, add a stitched bow, stitch on buttons, the sky is the limit.

You can of course also stitch the hat in any color you like, and since it takes as little as 50 yards for the newborn hat, this is a great stash buster to make in lots of different sizes as a charity project or to gift to all the littles in your life.

Double V Slouch Beanie Hat
TThis slouchy crochet beanie is a perfect option that works with virtually everyone’s style. I personally hate when hats are too tight and slick your hair down. That’s why this beanie crochet pattern is perfect. It has just the right amount of slouchy stretch to allow you to style it loosely without cementing your hair to your face. Plus, the texture is a perfect mix of classic and contemporary.

This pattern is super simple and is great for all levels. Plus, as a perk, it can be transformed into a messy bun hat as well. 2 styles with one pattern—it doesn’t really get much easier than that. Yay for cute, adaptable crochet patterns.

Preemie Newborn Bea Hat
Let your new little one shine in this Preemie/ Newborn Bow Crochet Hat! I whipped this hat up in less than a half hour with worsted weight yarn and a size G-6 (4.00 mm) crochet hook. The post ribbing helps it have a bit of a lacy look, or you can keep it simple and just make the last round double crochet instead. One thing I love about crocheting hats is that they are easy to make and perfect for people who are just learning foundational crochet skills.

This hat is sized for preemies and bigger newborns, so you can make a bunch for a lot of new babies in no time.

Simple Edgy Messy Bun Hat
Need a classic hat pattern? Look no further. This messy bun hat pattern has a very clean, traditional, and put together style. It uses a 3rd loop stitch combined with traditional single, double, and half double crochet stitches to create crisp, linear lines. I love making these for my co-workers because the pattern is just so clean and simple that it’s a safe bet for anyone. The messy bun hat is unique enough in concept, but when paired with this simpler texture, it makes it the perfect item for friends who like a more minimalist look. You could even introduce a second color for alternating stripes to customize the look.

This pattern is also versatile in that it can be made into a full beanie. This is a great pattern for all levels of crocheters. Go forth and happy crocheting!

Chunky Triangle Scarf
I love scarfs, especially handmade crochet scarves. In fact, I’m a self-professed scarf fanatic. I have tons of them, all in different fabrics, colors, and patterns. But you know what? I didn’t have one like this, and I feel like one can never have too many scarves. They’re the perfect accessory, and whenever I wear one, I know it means the ushering in of the fall season. This crochet triangle scarf is so cozy, warm, and easy to make.

The fringe gives it a little bit of a western vibe, which I love, and the colors can be customized to anything that you want. The thick yarn size ensures that this crochet scarf pattern comes together quickly, so no excuses! It’s craft season, and this is a great choice to satisfy your crafty vibes.

Stitch11 Rose and Headband
I recently started wearing crochet headbands when I would try to pull off the “Elsa Braid.” Without one, my hair on one side would slowly fall down. It didn't take long before my daughter started begging me to make her headbands also. This simple headband with a rose embellishment can be made in a solid color or make the headband in one color and the flower in another.

Headbands are so quick and easy to make and you can easily customize them to different sizes.

Irresistible colors aren't they? The last sale that Michaels craft store held, I picked up about 10 skeins for about $8. I meant to go back for more but I got distracted making this cute little thing! This Cute Rainbow Daze Dishcloth can also be used as a washcloth or whimsical coaster. At a length of 7 inches, it can cover quite a bit of area and clean a lot of little faces or even glassware.
